pottery lessons

For the last 9 weeks, I've been enrolled in a pottery class through Boulder Parks & Recreation. I've never EVER done pottery before, so there was a lot I learned about pottery, myself, and life in general. Here are some things I learned in my very first pottery course ever:

• Centering is everything.
• Pay attention to your body. Are your feet on the ground?
• Sometimes the process is messy, sometimes it is tidy. It is really up to you how you relate to it.
• Breathe.
• Sometimes you want your bottoms to be round, sometimes you want them flat.
• No, really, pay attention to your body. Are both your elbows in the air, well put those suckers DOWN!
• When you sit down with intention, the likelihood you'll get at least something you like, is much higher.
• Sometimes you need to stop looking and just feel it.
• Don't be afraid to ask for help or look like a fool.
• Centering is nothing.
• Chocolate is an essential to have in your toolbag.
• Seriously, pay attention to your body. Do you know where your fingers are? Where they've been? Where they're going?
• Curves are beautiful.
